Summer & Stripes
This season is one to be brave, big and bright! Forget the Breton stripe and be prepared to kick back and go bold! The runways of SS11 saw Prada lead the pack with their pieces showcasing the thick blocks of vibrant pinks, oranges and greens. The collection took inspiration from 40’s silhouettes; accessories included clutches and matching patterned, fur stoles. Other designers, who incorporated the popular pattern, included Marc by Marc Jacobs. Marc used bright yet complimentary colours which would suit any girl’s wardrobe for the warmer season. And with fans including one of our favourite first ladies Michelle Obama, you’re in good company projecting the striped theme. From the clashing yet contrasting stripes of Jil Sander to the geometric styles of Celine to the clean lines of Jonathan Saunders – the revived striped pattern was one which took over the runways of SS11. The stripe trend is one that reflects the back bone of minimalistic design and exists without the need of overpowering accessories.
To successfully achieve the stripes look, team vibrant colours with classic white to create the epitome of ultimate, luxe chic. However if you’re not quite ready to embrace the boldness of this style, opt for a more subtle approach in the form of accessories. The contrasting colours can enhance a simple outfit to keep you bang up to date.
