Diane Von Furstenberg

Diane Von Furstenberg

The iconic Belgium born Diane Von Furstenberg, queen bee of fashion has a string of celebrity followers such as Michelle Obama, Uma Thurman, Eva Mendes, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Middleton. As Diane says “why do think Madonna choses DVF when she wants her brain to be taken seriously?”

Diane arrived in New York with a new baby, a suitcase full of her signature wrap dresses, a German Prince, Egon Von Furstenberg and a mission to ‘make woman feel confident, strong and beautiful.’ Diane began interning with an Italian manufacturer of jerseys. Where she learned how to use a printing mat and studied jersey fabric. Although the wrap existed before DVF, the use of Jersey to scout the body and animal print to create a flawless figure that transcended age and size, had not!

Diane made her debut in 1972 with the jersey wrap dress, the origin of what is today a thriving fashion house. She is currently in her third year on the Council of Fashion Designers of America after receiving the lifetime achievement award in 2005. DVF is now considered a global luxury lifestyle brand.

Diane is a major supporter of natural glamour claiming that age is experience you can wear with pride. Her clothes express her aversion to the modern day fascination with youth as they have outlived styles and movements. Diane believes ‘the whole point of beauty is imperfection’ and her wrap dress does its best to boast natural beauty by clinging to every flattering curve.

DVF’s work is looking ultimately to empower women, influenced by ‘the image of a woman living in a man’s body!’ Diane’s creations take on a feminine feel with pieces that are based on the fall line creating a delicate and slender silhouette. Although drifting with trends Diane’s style remains uncompromised.

If you are a fan of the sophisticated Diane then her vintage section is a must see, prices from her mainline average around £200.00 in Harrods which won’t break the bank! For her signature wrap dress check out our link to Selfridges were you can purchase it for £300.00!
